about

From the liner notes:
Since the founding rebels of CiTR 101.9FM started broadcasting via unsanctioned phonograph in 1937, the UBC Student Radio Society (FKA CYVR), has been a place for students and community to experiment on and off air. We make radio, but we also make jokes, stories, art, messes,. This tape has snippets of all of the above.

Our theme for CiTR’s 2017 Fundrive fundraising campaign is “Shape Your Media.” As part of our ongoing initiative to be a platform for alternative media, we wanted to share share some of the voices that shape CiTR. From British sketch comedy to a radio kid’s camp take-over; from Native Youth, to poets and punks, these are the voices that keep CiTR on air.

As Lou Reed said to a student reporter in 1977, “Well, the kids seem to like it …. And more important than that, we liked it, and it’s our show, so that’s good enough for me.”

We hope it’s good enough for you too.
